Why EFL For Youth

Our experiential youth programs are not only educational but have been designed to facilitate life skills development such as effective communication, problem-solving, self awareness, logical decision making, emotional regulation, personal boundaries, teamwork, and many other valuable lessons along the way. Combining experiential learning with certified equine facilitation (CEF) in skill development and cognitive remediation has been  well researched  and proven to deliver a powerful and unforgettable learning experience. Please note, CEF is not a riding program, participants work from the ground with the horses to achieve the skill driven objectives.

Why Does It Work

How Does It Work

Horses understand how to differentiate between potentially threatening behaviour and a calm and assertive nature. Children and young people who have the chance to participate in our youth development programs are able to learn how to modify their behaviour through sets of exercises that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. This type of teaching cannot be delivered in a classroom. It is the experience of being in close contact with horses that has the most effect on young people.

Historically EFL has been used an educational tool to help combat some of the common issues affecting youth today. Our programs are designed to assist in developing emotional and cognitive skills for youths who may struggle with behavioural disorders, low self esteem, bullying, drug abuse, poor decision making, or to help build communication and relationship skills.

One of the many bonuses of working with horses versus a classroom setting is the component of interactivity. We understand that all individuals learn differently, but everyone can take away lessons learned through experiences. As one of the only Nationally Recognized Equine Assisted Learning Programs in Canada, each of our exercises is custom designed to maximize learning potential and focus on developing individual skills as participants work through each fun and interactive group challenge.
