REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPY

What Is RMT

An RMT assesses and treats soft tissues and joints and works to manage and prevent musculoskeletal dysfunction, injury, and pain. Through soft tissue mobilization techniques and therapeutic exercise, RMT seeks to rehabilitate, develop, and/or maintain function of

each client treated.

Currently, I am completing studies to obtain my D.O.M.P (Diploma of Osteopathy Manual Practitioner) in order to gain skills that fall within my scope as an RMT. As a student of osteopathy I incorporate this approach where appropriate to my level of learning.

Prior to becoming an RMT, I completed a four-year university degree in Kinesiology. As an academic discipline Kinesiology encompasses the study of physical activity and science of human movement. My Kinesiologist background has allowed me to work with a wide range of clientele, focusing on areas such as functional movement assessments, injury rehabilitation/exercise therapy, ergonomic evaluation, strength and conditioning, and high performance athletic training.

I incorporate my kinesiological approach in my work as an RMT using a movement based assessment, various active techniques, and assigning remedial exercises as needed. What this means is that patients should be prepared to move and physically engage throughout my treatments. I believe strongly in the science behind motor control and movement as I have seen the positive results repeatedly over my years in practice. With movement and proper integration the positive results from my manual therapy techniques may be more easily sustained.

RMT clientele I have worked with includes professional athletes, patients with terminal illnesses, MVA related injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, fibromyalgia, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, burn and trauma survivors, pre-and postnatal women, and patients requiring paediatric orthopaedics. In addition, I regularly treat general muscle imbalances and soft tissue dysfunction (such as sprains, strains, and tendonitis) and very much enjoy this type of practice.
